Hey, can the rudder packing on a PS34 be replaced while the boat's still in the water? Has anyone here done it before?

I did this on my friend's PS34 last season, and yes, you really can change the rudder packing while it's still in the water. You might get a bit of water coming in when you loosen the nut, but it's nothing you can't handle with a rag and a bilge pump close by. Just make sure your new packing is pre-cut and ready to go. It's not a tough job if you just take your time.

Yeah, it's doable and I've done it, but the place is tight and movement will be limited. Removing the overflow tank might help, but it's probably not going to be a comfortable position to work in.

Yes, it's absolutely possible to replace the rudder packing on a PS34 while it's in the water, and many sailors have done it. The key is preparation and working quickly
